The Four Laws Of Otaku

1. Don’t explain the meaning of moe to mundanes (AKA normal people, non-otaku, muggles). They just don’t get it. That, and there is no solid definition of it. Even the Japanese aren’t sure what its dictionary definition is. But as Konata Izumi said, “A person is truly an otaku when they can embrace the term [moe] without question.”

2. If you see a Japanese snack that you have’ve never seen before at a store BUY IT THEN AND THERE, even if you don’t know what it is. I recently made the very, very bad mistake of not buying the Cookies and Cream Panda Pocky at a comic book store. Apparently it is super rare. You just never know when a collectible snack is sitting right in front of you, so BUY THEM ALL.

3. Incorporate kawaii into your life. It doesn’t matter if you decide to wear a Totoro shirt or a pair of Lucky Star shoes (does such a  thing exist?) , but you want to drive those cute little characters into the hearts and minds of everyone around you. Even if it drives them mad.

4. Use otaku terms to describe people, things, and places. Rather than just quoting manganime, use terms like, ‘himedere’ to describe a stuck up girl, ‘moe’ a well endowed one, ‘dandere’ a shy girl. . .Wait, why are all these about girls?!

How Many Of Us Are Waiting?

How many of us are waiting for tomorrow’s sun?

Just to be disappointed in the pale moon’s glow.

How many of us are waiting for the ship that we saw just the other day?

But turned before we got a second chance at life.

How many of us are waiting for the snow’s cold haze?

Even blind, we can still hear them scream.

How many of us are waiting for the sun’s warm rays?

I’m still waiting.

Alone.

The Ground Was Changing

DSCN0160The ground was changing.

Trees’ roots ripped from the land as the humans built.

The ground was changing.

As buildings of concrete and glass scraped the sky.

The ground was changing.

As bombs fell from the sky and dragged the skyscrapers to the ground with them.

The ground was changing.

As people shuffled rubble to create grave yards for the dead.

The ground was changing.

As it started all again.

With A Bomb

DSCN0036.jpg

Walked past your house today

The lights were off, the door locked

No sounds drifted through the open window

But a quiet sobbing

Has your hope been ripped away

With a bomb?

So quietly they fall

To the earth

From their metals carriers

Then they unleash hell

The heat

The blast

The sound

Then no more

And they disappear in a cloud of ash

Slowly settling

Yet never leaving our hearts

Walked past your house today

Knocked on the door

No footsteps walked down the hall

Not a sound of life

Have you left?

Have you been ripped away by a bomb?

So quietly they fall

The soldiers

To the earth

That buries them

And hell breaks through their ranks

I hope

Have I left?

Have I been ripped away by a bomb?

So quietly I fall

To the earth, so soft

Compared to the heat
The blast

The sound

The light. . .

What comes next, I wonder?

All I can feel is that your hope has been ripped away

With a bomb.

Continue On To The Stars

Now so far away

The moon flies

Across the water

Setting slowly and resting on the grass

Now all alone

The bird cries

And sound carries across

Silent water

Even if I could fly away

There is no way the stars

Would be in reach

They are so pretty

Now all alone

A melancholy soul resting up

For the long day ahead

The world keeps turning without me

At a speed I can’t match

Am I in your dream?

Am I in the wind against your skin?

Who will ever know?

Now all alone

A melancholy soul resting up

For a long day ahead

The world keeps turning without me

At a speed I can’t match

Am I in your dreams?

Am I the wind against your skin?

Can you hear my voice

Over the everyday rumble of the world?

Continue on. . .to the stars. . .

How To Reuse Pocky Boxes

This section is meant to ease the guilt of all those hoarded Pocky boxes you have. It’s just so hard to throw them away, isn’t it? Especially after you paid an arm and a leg for them.

DSCN0064So here it is : Drawer Organizers! Why shove stuff in a drawer when you can shove it in a Pocky box and then shove it in a drawer?
